Chemo went great!
JD, is three weeks post amputation and had her first chemo treatment (Carboplatin) on Friday. I was told she was a good girl and they even gave her a treat afterward for good behavior.
Her stictches came out at the same time so she no longer needs the t-shirts. Although I must say the t-shirts were a lifesaver, kept her from bothering the incision and kinda cute as well ! Her fur is growing back and the incision is starting to flatten out a bit.
I have a small two seater car and have a ‘pet-step’ ramp, (purchased for a previous station wagon) which provides a gentle slope for her to get into the bucket seat. She gets right in no problem. I am so amazed at her hopping speed. She can really move! She came out of the Vet’s door so fast she was making it hard for me to keep up with her. What a joyful sight.
When we got home it was right to sleep, busy day combined with a rare Northwest heatwave, kept her napping most of the afternoon. No sign of any trouble tolerating the Chemo.
Yea!!!
Dr Pam called to check on JD Satuarday and mentioned supplements of fish oil and mushrooms.I will talk to her more about them, but have any of you used these? Feedack would be appreciated.
So as I write this, my sweet, brave, tough girl is taking a nap and her three paws are moving as she dreams. I treasure these small things. I seem to have lost my Avatar so hope to have her photo back up soon.

so glad to hear jd is doing so well after chemo. gayle usually didn’t show any signs of ‘effects’ until about 5 – 6 days in, with a wee bit of diarhea (different chemo tho, so paws crossed that this doesn’t hit jd). we are taking k-9 immunity, transfer factor and fish oil. it’s made with the mushrooms. gayle is doing very well with this, and we are positive it’s helping. she also gets acupuncture every other week.
jd, glad to hear you are mastering the art of ‘medicinal napping’…really helpful during the chemo treatments!!

Great to hear that JD is doing so well! Mackenzie takes power mushrooms and fish oil – there are several of us here who are doing the power mushrooms and it seems to be working really well. As I’ve told others, ever since Mackenzie started taking them, she seems to have a major boost in energy. Don’t know if it’s my wishful thinking, my imagination or the real deal, but something’s working! Definitely worth checking into.
Here’s keeping our paws crossed that JD continues to do well!

Sounds like JD is doing really good. We are so happy for her. She is definitely past the hard part of the post-amp. We really hope she tolerates the chemo as well as our baby did – hardly any problems at all. Please keep us posted as to how the fish oil and mushrooms work.

JD, you rock! Yes, power mushrooms and fish oil are two great cancer fighters. Some dogs use them as part of the Metronomic Protocol, which you can learn about in our interview with Dr. Mona Rosenberg, an awesome oncologist in California. You can also read about my experience with it, here.
Like Mackenzie said, I used K9 Immunity and my folks and I do think that it contributed to my longevity.
Good luck! Lots of pawsitive energy coming your way!
